Read moreThe visit to the historic-artistic areas in the centre of Pavia stretches along the network of alleys that follow the ancient settlement of the Roman “Ticinum” and its regular pattern of roads. The itinerary can start from one of Pavia symbols, the 14th century Visconti Castle, a fortified noble residence, which since 1950 has housed Musei Civici. Near the Castle there is the Romanesque basilica (12th century) of S. Pietro in Ciel d’Oro, where the Arca di S.Agostino and the tomb of the philosopher and writer Severino Boezio are preserved.

It covers 90,640 hectares (110 km along the river) and 46 Municipalities from 3 provinces: Varese, Milan, and Pavia. The Park has intended to preserve the fluvial habitat, the basin itself, local flora and fauna through the regulation of agricultural and touristic activities. The portion that belongs to Lombardy territory is managed by a Consortium that includes 49 public institutions.

The oasis is managed by Società Ornitologica Pavese and was opened to the public in 1994.
